Notes on Blender Interface:


Defaults:
Middle Mouse - To rotate the view or orbit the view
Shift + Middle Mouse - Pan the view
Ctrl + Middle Mouse - Zoom in and out




Full Screen : Shift + Space Bar (Ctrl + Up Arrow)
Properties scroll: Middle Mouse + Drag


Num Pad Interface:
. -> Centere Object
0 -> Camera view (This will be the rendered image)
1 -> Front Persepective
5 -> Switch b/w Persp and Ortho
3 -> Right view
7 -> Top View
2,4,6,8 -> Rotate in increments


Duplicate window/interface: Ctrl+Alt+W
Duplicate Panel: Shift + Drag out


Panels and its headers


Timeline: Select current screen in animation, select frame range to render etc.

Dope Sheet: Adjust timing for objects in animation.


NLA Editor: Non Linear Animation Editor enables to mix diffent action and compile with Dope Sheet and mix in NLA as a video editor. We can mix animations together.


UV Image Editor: Editing UV of an image.


Video Sequence Editor: is video editor.


Text Editor: We load scripts and run them. We can also write documentation for that scene.




Node Editor: For composing materials, textures, and compositing the final render.


Logic Editor: We add properties and reactions to objects in game engine.


Properties: Render, Layers, Shading, Performance, Post Processing, Output, Anti-Aliasing, Full Sample Motion Blur, Dimensions, Stamp, Bake.


Outliner: We can see all the objects we have in the scene. 


Info: Top most menu with file, Add, Render, Help, interface template etc. 


File Browser: For browsing files.


Console: for programs

Different ways to accessing user Prefs.
1. File -> User Pref
2. CTRL + Alt + U  (Opens in new window - not very useful)
3. Divide window and open user pref panel (this is preferred)

Some Useful user pref settings:


Interface: * Rotate around selection (Makes the camera move around the selected point)


Editing: * Release Confirm (When moving object, with this checked you need not click to confirm)


Input: Choose turntable or Trackball style.


System: Lights in 3d View (Does not affect Render).


To save the changes press 'Save as Default' or press Ctrl+U

Here is a simplistic summary of the file format comparisons:
  • Use PNG-8 over GIF for images with simple colors (logos, icons, buttons)
  • Use PNG-8 over JPEG for images with simple colors (logos, icons, buttons)
  • Use PNG-24 over GIF for photographic images
  • Use PNG over JPEG when using alpha transparency
  • Use JPEG over PNG for photographic images
  • Use GIF for background transparency for older browsers (IE6 and below)
  • Use GIF for animated GIFs
